FAQs
Our Answers to Your Questions
Who can join this organization?
Women of Color is an organization open to anyone and everyone on campus! We look forward to welcoming new members from all types of background and diversity! You don't have to classify as a woman and you don't have to be of color. We love having allies and supporters, because it enables us to build connections on and off campus. We strive to make everyone feel at home here by creating a safe and brave space we all need on campus at James Madison.
What will I gain from being in this organization?
We hope that our members gain and hold onto a variety of skills as a result of being apart of Women of Color (WOC). Skills we hope members obtain include, but are not limited to: becoming confident in the skin they're in, developing their professional skills, establishing life long friendships, growing into well rounded individuals, etc. We strive to help members develop these skills by creating support groups, creating networking opportunities, holding professional development events, and offering bonding events. We hope that through these efforts our members will connect with other members and stay connected in the future to help each other continue their growth.
Is this organization a welcoming and open place to be in?
Women of Color is meant to help you create support groups and long lasting friends! We strive to be as welcoming and open as we can. We are always looking for new ideas to help our members feel as comfortable as they can.
What year do I have to be in order to join this organization?
As long as you are a current James Madison Student, you can join! It doesn't matter what year you are. We have members from all classes at JMU and you will just add to it!
How can I become apart of this organization?
To become a member of Women of Color, fill out an application at the beginning of the Fall semester! Since we are a new organization and less than a year old, we only accept applications in the Fall Semester. Hopefully one day we can expand this but as of right now, look on our social media accounts and mass emails to see when the applications open and are due! Don't be scared of the application either. We do this to help our members learn how to communicate about themselves and become confident in filling out applications. We strive to help our members grow professionally and personally.
